Winter Shelter

By , September 18, 2014

IMGP2883We hosted the cold weather shelter again this winter.  The shelter  operates in Pond Square Chapel on Sunday evenings/Monday mornings from the first Sunday in November until mid January.

The Winter Shelter project provides an evening meal, a bed for the night and breakfast during the cold winter months from the beginning of November to the end of March with many churches in the London Borough of Camden hosting guests one night per week.

It is run by C4WS – a volunteer dependent project, resourced and managed by a partnership of churches based in the Camden Borough. C4WS provides Christian hospitality which directly addresses our guests’ basic needs for food, shelter, warmth and friendship. It is the volunteers that make this possible. C4WS also works year-round to provide support to the homeless.

69 guests were accommodated between 9th November 2017 and 29th March 2018.

C4WS offered 2,096 bed spaces to the homeless and 4,192 meals were served

Our guests represented 27 different nationalities

C4WS offers guests staying at the shelter access to a weekly Jobs Club offering personalized assistance with finding employment, training and volunteering opportunities; English Classes; Wellbeing services including Massage and Yoga; A Mentoring and Befriending scheme. This season also saw the launch of our Home From Home hosting scheme.

This year at the shelter in Pond Square Chapel we had volunteers from the United Reformed Church, St Michael’s and All Saints Highgate, St Benet’s in Kentish Town and beyond.

We welcomed donations food, clothing, cleaning materials and money (which went towards food costs and laundry).  If you’d like to make a donation or volunteer next winter, please contact Patricia, our Administrator at Pond Square by email or by telephoning 020 8341 5463.
